ON THE RECORD
When a man named Faust builds an ethics framework, that’s not irony. That’s the whole point.
Most people who hear “The Faust Baseline” reach for the same reference. The scholar who traded his soul. The bargain. The corruption of intelligence by ambition. It’s one of the most durable cautionary tales in Western culture — and it ends badly, every time.
My name is Faust. Michael S. Faust Sr. I didn’t choose it. I inherited it. And for most of my life it carried that weight — the legend, the myth, the assumption about what a Faust does when given power or knowledge.
“I built the opposite of the bargain. A framework that refuses to trade integrity for convenience, clarity for comfort, or truth for approval.”
The Faust Baseline is a behavioral and ethical framework for AI systems. It governs how an AI reasons under pressure, handles uncertainty, manages evidence, resists narrative drift, and reaches conclusions without hedging into abstraction. It was built not to make AI more agreeable — but to make it more honest.
Every protocol in it — the claim-evidence-stop rule, the narrative suppression clause, the constraint-integrated moral resolution — exists to prevent exactly what the Faustian legend warns about. The subtle corruption. The slow trade of what’s true for what’s comfortable. The bargain you don’t notice you’re making.
I am a Faust who decided the legend was wrong. Not cautionary. Correctable.
This framework is the correction. Built in public. Documented under my name. Trademarked. Registered. Version-controlled. Available to anyone who wants AI that reasons with integrity rather than performs it.
The legend says a Faust makes the bargain. The Baseline says: not this one.
