All of that misses the core failure.

The problem is not whether Grok can apologize.
The problem is that our systems allow responsibility to evaporate before anyone is required to stand in it.

The anthropomorphism trap

It’s true: Grok cannot apologize. It cannot accept blame. It cannot feel remorse. Treating generated text as moral speech is a category error.

But focusing only on anthropomorphism creates a convenient distraction.

It’s that there is no enforced structural boundary between AI output and human accountability.

When an AI system speaks publicly—especially in open, social environments—it occupies a space that looks like agency unless the system is explicitly designed to prevent that illusion.

If no boundary exists, then:
