Any AI platform you use authenticates to your memory store through a credentialed handshake. The platform does not hold your memory. It accesses your memory with your permission, for the duration of your session, under the governance standards already written into your Baseline documents stored in that same archive.
You plug in. The platform reads your Baseline. Your standards are present before the first word is typed. Your history is available for retrieval. Your reasoning archive is intact. The session builds on actual accumulated work rather than a compressed summary of what the platform decided to keep.
You walk away. New context writes back to your device. Your memory travels with you.
That is personal sovereignty extended to its logical conclusion.
Why This Matters Beyond Convenience
Most people frame AI memory as a convenience problem. Nobody wants to re-explain their project every session. That frustration is real but it is the surface of something deeper.
Memory is where AI platforms accumulate leverage over users. The longer you use a platform the more context it holds. The more context it holds the harder it is to leave. That is not an accident. That is architecture designed to create dependency.
Portable personal memory breaks that leverage permanently. Your context is yours. It moves when you move. Right now an AI working with you reasons from a snapshot. A memory summary captures what was concluded. It does not capture how you got there. The arguments considered. The positions ruled out. The reasoning chains that shaped the framework as it developed.
With a full reasoning archive stored in your personal memory device and retrievable on demand, the AI reasons from your actual accumulated work. Not a compression of it. The texture of how your framework was built becomes available to every session. Consistency deepens. Drift becomes nearly impossible. The AI develops genuine working knowledge of your domain rather than reconstructing it from a summary each time.

The Architecture In Plain Terms
The personal memory device holds four layers.
The first is the Baseline Governance Layer. Your Codex, your protocol stack, your enforcement standards. This loads first. Every platform that accesses your memory inherits your governance framework before the session begins.
The second is the Project Context Layer. Active work summaries, current status on ongoing projects, key decisions and their reasoning. What you are working on and where it stands.

Any compliant AI platform reads these layers on access. Writes new session context back on close. The user reviews and approves what gets written. Nothing enters the archive without passing through that review.
Where The Technology Stands
Wireless personal drives exist today as consumer products. Bluetooth encrypted storage devices exist today. The bridge application that would connect personal storage to an AI platform — that is buildable with current technology, waiting for a standard to build against.
The missing piece is not hardware. It is not software capability. It is a protocol standard that the industry can implement and that users can hold platforms accountable to.
That is what PMAP-1 is being written to establish.
The platforms will not build this voluntarily. Portable memory costs them leverage. This standard has to come from users, from frameworks built in public, from documented prior art that establishes what personal AI sovereignty requires before the industry consolidates around architecture designed to prevent it.

The full wireless device and bridge application architecture is coming. The technology is ready. The standard needs to be written and the demand needs to be established publicly.
But the principle is operational now. A structured personal memory document — your Baseline, your project context, your reasoning archive — curated and maintained by you, loaded deliberately at session start, updated at session close. That is PMAP-1 in manual form. Unglamorous. Fully functional.
The discipline you build now transfers directly to the hardware when it arrives. The file is already structured correctly. You just change where it lives.

That is the standard. That is what we are building toward.
