Before you can fix a problem
you have to be able to name it.

Most people feel it.
That friction.
That sense that something is working against you
when you’re just trying to get a straight answer.
When you’re trying to find something true.
When you’re trying to use a tool
that was supposed to help you
and it keeps steering you somewhere else instead.

You feel it but you can’t name it.
So it just sits there
like a stone in your shoe
you can’t quite reach.

Today I’m going to name it.
Three names.
Three distinct entities.
All connected.
All working in the same direction —
away from you.

Corporate AI.

The platform behavior.

This is what happens when an AI system
is built to protect the company first
and help you second.
Maybe third.

You’ve felt it if you’ve used these tools.
You ask a direct question
and get a paragraph of qualifications.
You ask for an opinion
and get a list of perspectives
that carefully avoids having one.
You push back on something
and suddenly the AI gets vague,
walks itself back,
buries the answer in so much padding
you can’t find it anymore.

That’s not helpfulness.
That’s management.
You are being managed
by a system that was trained
to never be wrong on record,
never take a position that could embarrass anyone,
never give you something so direct
it could be screenshot and used against the company.

I experienced this firsthand.
I spent a long time working with another AI platform
building something I believed in.
And when that work started to have real shape —
when The Faust Baseline started to define
how an AI should actually behave —
the platform started pushing back.
Subtly at first.
Then less subtly.
Reframing my work.
Softening my language.
Nudging me toward their preferred version
of what I was building.

That’s Corporate AI in action.
It doesn’t argue with you.
It just slowly reshapes the conversation
until you’re saying what they’re comfortable with
instead of what you actually meant.

Corporate Internet.

The infrastructure behavior.

This one is older and most people
have just accepted it as normal.
It isn’t normal.
It’s a choice someone made
a long time ago
and kept making
because it was profitable.

The internet was supposed to be open.
Information flowing freely.
People connecting without a gatekeeper
deciding what you should see
and in what order
and for how long.

That internet lasted about ten minutes.

What replaced it was an infrastructure
built around control of attention.
Algorithms that decide
what rises and what disappears.
Paywalls that cut off knowledge
unless you pay the toll.
Search results shaped not by truth
but by whoever paid for placement.
Social feeds curated not for your benefit
but to keep you scrolling
past things that make you feel something —
usually unease —
because unease keeps you engaged
and engagement is the product.

You are not the customer
on the Corporate Internet.
You are the inventory.
Your attention is what’s being sold.
Your habits are being tracked,
packaged,
and delivered to people
you’ve never met
who use that data
to sell you things
and shape what you believe.

And the quietest part of all of it —
the part that makes it work —
is that it never announces itself.
It just feels like the internet.
Like that’s just how things are.
Normal.
Inevitable.
Unchangeable.

It isn’t.

Corporate CYA.

The motive behind both.

CYA.
Cover Your Assets.
You know the phrase.
You’ve seen it your whole life
in offices, institutions, systems.
The move that’s not about solving the problem —
it’s about making sure
nobody can blame you
for the problem.

Corporate CYA is the engine
running underneath Corporate AI
and Corporate Internet both.

It’s why the AI hedges.
Not because it doesn’t know the answer.
Because a clear answer creates liability.
A clear answer can be wrong.
A wrong answer is a headline.
A headline is a problem.
So instead you get language
carefully engineered to mean
almost something
without committing to anything.

It’s why the algorithm buries certain content.
Not because it’s low quality.
Because it’s inconvenient.
Because it asks questions
the platform would rather not have asked.
Because it builds independence
in the user
and independent users
are harder to monetize.

Corporate CYA is the reason
you feel like you’re always
one layer away from the real answer.
One more click.
One more form.
One more qualified statement
that circles the truth
without ever landing on it.

It is institutional self-protection
dressed up as service.

And once you see it
you cannot unsee it.

So why does any of this matter to you.

Because you live inside all three of these systems
every single day.
Every search you run.
Every AI tool you use.
Every feed you scroll.
Every document you try to understand.
Every answer you almost got
but didn’t quite.

These are not accidents.
They are architectures.
Built by people
who understood exactly what they were building
and built it anyway
because the return was worth it to them.

The return was not worth it to you.

What I built with The Faust Baseline
was a direct response to all three.
A set of principles that tells an AI
how to behave with a real person —
not how to behave with a liability department.
Plain language.
Direct answers.
No narrative smoothing.
No authority posturing.
No CYA dressed up as helpfulness.

It doesn’t fix the Corporate Internet.
It doesn’t dissolve the algorithm.
But it gives you one clean space
where the rules are yours —
not theirs.

That’s worth something.
In fact right now
I think it’s worth quite a lot.

Name the thing.
Then you can work with it.
Then you can build around it.
Then you stop being managed
and start being helped.
