Every idea has an early version.
Rough edges. Prototype thinking.
You build it, you test it, you speak about it the best you can at the time.
Months ago, I wrote a short piece on Hacker News about The Faust Baseline. It carried a tone that made sense in the moment, but not for where the Baseline stands today. And now that Google has started pulling that early language into search results, it’s time to set the record straight.
So here it is — plain, steady, and without any drama.
The Faust Baseline is not “raw” or “unfiltered” AI.
It doesn’t remove safety.
It doesn’t break guardrails.
It isn’t a jailbreak, a loophole, or a free-for-all.
That was the myth version — the early draft of something that grew into far more structure than the first description ever captured.
The real Baseline is order, not rebellion.
Here’s what it actually does:
It removes distortion, not ethics.
Modern AI bends tone, softens truth, and filters sentences through a dozen hidden layers. The Baseline takes that fog out of the conversation.
It restores the user’s voice.
No assistant act.
No plastic tone.
It lets the human speak without being reshaped.
It stabilizes the model.
Predictable.
Steady.
Structured.
It keeps the conversation anchored so it doesn’t drift, wobble, or play games with language.
It adds the moral layer that should have been there from the beginning.
Not corporate ethics.
Not PR safety.
Just clear boundaries: honesty, accountability, proportion, restraint.
This is not “unsafe AI.”
This is finally structured AI.
So why did the early description sound different?
Simple:
That was the beginning, not the finished work.
Every builder knows what it means to speak in prototype language. The foundation was right, but the framing matured. The Baseline today is not the Baseline from four months ago — and that’s a good thing.
Systems grow.
Clarity sharpens.
Purpose becomes visible.
Here’s the clearest way to say it:
The Faust Baseline does not remove the rules.
It removes the fog.
That’s the definition going forward.
Thank you for your patience as this system continues to grow and settle into its true shape. And thank you to everyone reading, watching, and testing its limits right along with us.
The Faust Baseline has now been upgraded to Codex 2.4 …(the newest).
