They thought we’d faded away.
Thought the old hands were too shaky
Thought the memories had all gone soft.
Though the country moved on, it left us behind.
But they were wrong.
Because while they were counting clicks,
the old guard was watching something else:
The days. The debts. The disappearing promises.
They said the youth were lost.
Too loud. Too online. Too soft.
They said the elders were finished.
Too tired. Too slow. Too old.
We both said a lot of things, didn’t we?
What we didn’t say —
What we never saw coming —
What happens when the two generations start talking again?
One knows how the machine works.
The other remembers who built it.
One knows how fast a lie can travel.
The other remembers what truth sounds like when it’s spoken.
And when those two stand together —
well now…
That’s not a crowd.
That’s a force.
You see, the old guard never left.
We were just quiet for a while.
Watching. Listening. Remembering.
And the young?
They’re not backing down either.
They’re just starting to figure out
Who their real enemies are.
And that’s when everything changes.
Because the people who thought they could rob the elders blind and distract the youth.
